Sneaking away from the catastrophe

The BBC has an interesting piece which tries to tone down the catastrophic aspect of the climate narrative. Written by someone described as a BBC climate disinformation specialist, suggesting with huge irony that the doom-laden climate narrative could be classed as disinformation by those who have been pushing it for decades. Although they would deny that. Doom deniers we could call them I suppose, which is also ironic.

It's simpler to assume they are all mad.

Why is climate 'doomism' going viral – and who's fighting it?

Climate "doomers" believe the world has already lost the battle against global warming. That's wrong - and while that view is spreading online, there are others who are fighting the viral tide...

Climate doomism is the idea that we are past the point of being able to do anything at all about global warming - and that mankind is highly likely to become extinct.

That's wrong, scientists say, but the argument is picking up steam online.

They have a vested interest in fighting doomism. Once the doomists admit defeat, they can no longer be patronised, advised, and bossed around. Doomists are as bad as complete sceptics in that respect. The BBC wants us as near to despair as possible, without tipping over into it. Doomism for climate alarmists is like orgasm for the pornographer.

Oh dear. The "scientists" have over egged the pudding.
The "You're all going to die!" ( search Zulu) mantra has actually got people believing them.
For the last 30 plus years we have only had 10 years, repeated every year, to avert catastrophe.
Now that catastrophe is inevitable, well you told us, there is no point wasting what little time and money we have left. Either curl up in a ball and kiss your arse goodbye, or really let rip in one last blaze of hedonism.
Ergo, no dosh for doom mongering soothsayers.
Oh dear. How sad. Never mind. As someone said in a really not climate.

Here in Naxos on holiday there is unusually hot weather for May. Am I worried? Am I hell, love every minute! Incidentally so many of the bird species we are told are reducing in numbers due to 'climate change' are abundant here. That's because there's no environmentalists!

I guess the BBC will have to tone 'UP' quite a lot of their dreary stuff when they are privatised. What a pathetic crowd they are in W1A.

It's been said above, but it seems as though they don't want people to give up on fighting climate change. The higher taxes, higher prices, banning of things the average person aren't supposed to have, like cars cookers and central heating, that all goes away if we simply admit there's nothing we can do.
It also goes away if we admit there is no climate crisis and the people who truly believe there is are just mental, but you won't see the BBC writing that one up

Sam - "Doomism for climate alarmists is like orgasm for the pornographer." Ha ha, so true.

Doonhamer - it's obviously a Net Zero thing. If the doom is too immediate, Net Zero isn't worth the pain. Tipping points will have to go, but of course it weakens the whole message. Liars do tend to run into consistency difficulties.

James - thanks, although the BBC does dig its own holes.

Tammly - dull, wet and not very warm here at the moment. Naxos sounds good.

Scrobs - I'd love to see them privatised. The squeals would be a delight.

Bucko - it's a fine line to tread. As you say, it does suggest the people who truly believe there is a climate crisis are just mental, but that includes some big names.
