The report warns things have got so bad, even previously unaffected regions such as the Arctic now face an elevated risk of wildfires.

I'm relaxed about the risk increasing by 50%, given that it is currently infinitesimal. I'd be more worried by an increase in panda attacks.

I am more concerned about the havoc among Brighton's flora and fauna. By all accounts it is quite exotic.

But you already knew that.
I was talking to my son last night and the recent storms had blown bits of his back garden fence down, and the local school had its cricket nets blown onto nearby houses. Meanwhile we had very little awareness of the storms other than gusty winds and heavy rain.
Just like headlines about heavy snow affecting Britain (just Scotland really), prolonged wet spells (just Wales really), a certain degree of localisation by the reporters *is necessary* but often omitted.
Plus if wild fires are to become *that* prevalent, there won't be much to burn any time soon...
Sam - good point, we could do with a few BBC programmes about an increase in panda attacks and what to do about it. There is already more bamboo around these days.
microdave - I once watched a 4x4 Panda being put through its paces. It did remarkably well when compared to a Range Rover over the same off-road terrain.
Andy - that's what I hear too, although I haven't investigated it.
Doonhamer - unfortunately Sir John didn't have the benefit of modern experts.
DJ - all we had was gusty winds and heavy rain and some of that was the wood burner making the gusts sound much louder. I suppose they assume that everyone wants to know how bad it is elsewhere. Strange to hear that the cricket nets were blown away, I'd expect them to be fairly safe.
Nothing if not interesting.
