Two women have described how they were surrounded by police, read their rights and fined £200 each after driving five miles to take a walk.
The women were also told the hot drinks they had brought along were not allowed as they were "classed as a picnic".
Guidance for the current lockdown says people can travel for exercise as long as it is in their "local area".
The police force involved, Derbyshire Police, said driving for exercise was "not in the spirit" of lockdown.
One of the would-be walkers, Jessica Allen, assumed "someone had been murdered" when she arrived at Foremark Reservoir on Wednesday afternoon.
The whole incident is certainly not in the spirit of something. Any kudos Boris acquired from Brexit seeps away day by day. Drip, drip, drip...

Your local police do seem to be extremely zealous regarding this sort of thing. Once the police start talking about the "spirit of the law", I would have thought that they have lost the case. Any reasonably competent solicitor should be able to make them sorry for a long time thereafter. If there's a moral from this story, it's to record all such encounters on your phone.
Not in the spirit of the law? What total bollox. It's either legal or it isn't, you tossers: see you in court.
It just goes to show how much membership of the EU has contaminated our government and legal systems. The UK has historically favoured Common Law - that which is not prohibited is permitted, whereas most of the other EU countries operate by Napoleonic/Roman Law - that which is not permitted is prohibited.

If you spot a robbery call the dobbers' hot line and report unknown number of persons carrying what could be bags of Carlsberg entering your neighbour's house.
Then await the Eeh Haaw of multiple multicoloured vehicles filled with brave, properly diverse plod ready to take on this threat to society.
Akin to the joke "There is no need to come now. I have shot him."
It wasn't so long ago that pubs were not allowed to sell drinks unless a 'substantial' meal was ordered, and a Scotch Egg was not considered a substantial meal. Now, brain dead, uniformed morons claim that a cup of tea is a picnic! Will these cretins please make their minds up.
Sam - I agree and they are already backtracking. Why they didn't foresee themselves having to do this sooner or later I don't know.
Jannie - yes and they were bound to come up against this kind of kickback eventually.
DJ - that's a good point and one which the UK needs to take on board.
microdave - brilliant, I'll be passing that on.
Doonhamer - "dobbers' hot line" I like that. We could call it coronadobbing.
Penseivat - that was probably the bit of silliness that made them backtrack. I can just imagine the phone call that somebody received from on high.
Dear Mr Haart
Do not Derbyshire police have form on this? Were they not the drone police who harassed walkers in remote countryside in our beloved government's first lockup?
DP
DP - they certainly do have form on this. We know people who saw them in action.
