I know I'm asking for a kicking, but what's a "Kull" switch? Nice to hear of the backyard solution, but one thing doesn't sound quite right. If a Porsche has to "Phone Home" EVERY time the owner wants to start it, what happens if you're in an area with no cell service? And which network do they (or the other car companies) use? I know there are special SIM's available which connect to any available network - intended for low usage IOT applications - but they wouldn't support the kind of data use that over the air software updates need.
Dave - yes, there are some questions about this. I don't know how it works, but in this case it may be something to do with sanctions and the software link being less reliable in Russia than Porsche intended. Even so, it sounds like a dubious idea.
I've heard of some modern cars with geofencing capabilities buried in the software which the police could use to limit where a car can go. It seems like one of those developments which governments would be so keen on that there may be something in it. Worth being suspicious at least.
