Ed's Wind-Powered Moral Compass

'Profiting from crisis morally wrong', says Miliband as BP announces huge rise in earnings

The oil and gas producing giant BP has recorded a more than doubling of profits as it benefits from high prices from the Iran war...

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said, "Profiting from a crisis is morally and economically wrong."

But Ed isn't the only one with a windy moral compass.

Environmental groups have reacted angrily to the results

"The oil industry's capacity to profiteer from human misery is almost limitless," said Greenpeace climate campaigner Maja Darlington.

Oil companies, "destroy the climate, push up the cost of living, and rake in billions in profit while innocent civilians die", said Patrick Galey, the head of news investigations at NGO Global Witness.

Good to know that the government are not profiting from the increase in VAT and other receipts. Not that these are helping Rachel's Magic Maths at all...........

Since the Government may be collecting larger amounts of revenue from increased fossil fuel prices then you could argue that "the Governments capacity to profiteer from human misery is almost limitless".

I saw a complaint in the paper that Weird Ed hasn't put solar panels on his roof.

Is there a word for a rich hypocrite? Hypocrat?

Chris and DJ - yes, Ed forgot to mention that windfall. Perhaps they will use it to repair all the potholes... or maybe not.

dearieme - Hypocrat is good word for rich hypocrites, but maybe solar panels wouldn't be enough to power all of his kitchens.

Does anything ever happen which doesn't provide a platform for these bores to get onto their hind legs and pontificate?
I am heartily sick of these campaigners/activists/fools who want to return the world to agrarian serfdom. With themselves as the benevolent guardians no doubt.

Quite a lot of 'hypnos' on the far-left, 'hypnotits', included...

Mike - I can't think of anything which doesn't provide these bores with a platform. Floods, droughts, hot, cold, snow, rain, good news, bad news, pandemic, no pandemic, birds, bees, newts, anything and everything.

They don't seem to have a problem with agrarian serfdom eventually - for us.

Scrobs - yes it's the HypnoGreens doing their HypnoThing.

Just disgusting, oil companies pushing the basis of our whole modern civilisation on us. Why do we put up with it?

Tammly - dreadful isn't it? Let's follow Ed back to flint.

Psst! Don't mention Pfizer.
I did once but I think that I got away with it.

Doonhamer - Knock knock.
"Excuse me sir but we believe you have been mentioning Pfizer without due authorisation."
