On a cheerful note: on Christmas Eve we watched the telly - not a habit of ours (except for the two football codes). The programme was the rural soap opera All Creatures Great and Small (Channel 5).
Its depiction of the evolution of the children's nativity play was wonderfully funny. I grin every time I think of it. The joke runs through the whole episode so it has lots of time to build up.
dearieme - we watched the original series but don't have a telly licence now, partly because we hardly ever switched it on and partly because of the BBC. I'm not sure if 5 does a catchup service, but it's worth checking.
