A chap is bound to wonder which randomised double-blind trial with a placebo control this advice was based on.
Well okay - a chap inclined to be sarcastic might rhetorically wonder -
Super flu: Get jab to protect grandparents, urges London chief nurse
Londoners were urged to get the flu jab to protect grandparents from catching the virus during the Christmas period.
The plea came from London’s Chief Nurse Karen Bonner who warned that the super flu was still sweeping throught [sic] the capital.

I’m pretty sure I have read that the flu jab doesn’t prevent you from catching or transmitting the virus. And also that it isn’t a close match for the strain in circulation anyway.
In other words, standard state misinformation.
And they wonder why we don’t trust them.
Even washing machine soap tablets advise 'keep away from children'.
The flu jab doesn't work.

It also seems to make you more vulnerable to other infections.

It's not just codgers for whom it is useless, it's useless for working-age people too.

And not just British codgers but Californian codgers: "The corresponding vaccine effectiveness estimate was 4.6% (95% confidence interval: 0.7, 8.3).

This chap, not being a doctor, doesn't beat about the bush.

Peter - yes there are good reasons to be sceptical, see dearieme's comment for some links.
DJ - I'm not surprised, they look delicious!
dearieme - thanks for the links, very useful, I've saved them for future reference. I've read a number of articles about officially ignored problems, uncertainties and hazards relating to the flu jab and others. I believe it was Tony Blair who once crowed about spending £150million on seasonal flu jabs which turned out to have been produced for the wrong virus.
I don't have a link, but there was another BMJ article where the ineffective nature of mass flu vaccination was the conclusion.
