Grace-and-favour without the grace

Angela Rayner ordered two beds costing £7k for her grace-and-favour Government flat

Angela Rayner ordered two beds costing nearly £7,000 for her grace-and-favour Government flat, it emerged yesterday.

The Deputy Prime Minister bought them in January, and they were installed on Valentine's Day.

Ms Rayner lives in Winston Churchill's old Westminster home, Admiralty House, which was originally built to house the First Lord of the Admiralty.

The person who coined the phrase champagne socialist did us all a favour, as did the person who coined the phrase prosecco socialist

No doubt there are others, well suited to Ms Rayner.

A la Prescott, 'Two-beds Rayner' seems appropriate...

Why did she order two beds? If she wants to invite her chavvy mates around for a boozy weekend, why should the taxpayer pay for that? Also, when she is booted out of office, I bet she tries to take them with her.

I may have been hasty with my previous message as I understand the ginger growler is reported as 'having bought them'. No mention of any expenses claims, though I have my suspiciouns.

Would "slag socialism" be too harsh?

Prosecco socialist ... yes indeed.

Scrobs - yes, let's hope it catches on.

Penseivat - I don't suppose we'll ever know for sure, but it does seem likely that the taxpayer paid as part of routine upgrading.

dearieme - about right I'd say.

James - but in pretentious bottles.

£600 inc. VAT for installation sounds a bit steep.

While we wouldn’t necessarily expect Her Gobbiness to get down on her hands and knees to assemble a flat-pack like the rest of us (although she might have used her hapless office underlings, as she did when packing up for the move), what sort of bed requires assembling to the tune of well over half a thousand quid?

Macheath - it does sound steep. I assembled ours and it was trivially easy, but modern self-assembly items are designed to be easily assembled. As if they charge that because they know they can.
