The Plan

Britain 'secretly preparing for attack by Russia' as decades-old emergency plans are updated

Britain has been quietly preparing for a direct attack by Russia, according to reports, as fears grow that the country is not ready for war.

Officials have been asked to update 20-year-old contingency plans in case of threats of attack by a foreign actor such as the Kremlin...

The plan will also guide the Prime Minister and Cabinet on how to run a wartime government, as well as looking at rail and road networks, courts, postal systems and phone lines.

"The plan will also guide the Prime Minister and Cabinet..."

Someone has a sense of humour.

So Sir Dreir Gormless decided first to pick a fight with Russia and only later realised it might involve defeat. Foresight or what? Mainly 'what'.

Let's get the civil war over first.

Do they think we’re still in the 1960’s or something?

‘Never interfere with an enemy while he’s in the process of destroying himself.’
Why would Russia, a successful, resource rich, Christian, nation want anything that UK has?
No, the entertainment value of UK importing legions of strong young men and distributing them around the nation in luxurious barracks, ruining its agriculture and industries, bad-mouthing its history and destroying any form of patriotism and love of country and fellow citizens, is worth far more than the momentary pleasure that squashing an annoying gnat could provide.

dearieme - the net zero foresight plan. I reckon Sir Dreir Gormless should have adopted a much more neutral realpolitik outlook.

Russians must be the Wrong Sort of Invaders, eh?

Sam - good point, we have too much internal tension to bother about anything else.

Peter - they probably do, it will be Anderson shelters next.

Doonhamer - I agree, there is no point, we are messing things up on a grand scale anyway.

dearieme - yes they are, they play chess too well not to be suspicious.

I bet item 1 on the list involves digging deep, well stocked bunkers for our betters to survive in.

decnine - good point - their primary consideration will be that government must continue even if there is nothing left to govern.
