Watch live: Starmer meets world leaders in Estonia as he visits troops serving on Russian border
Watch live as Sir Keir Starmer meets leaders of Baltic states in Estonia for the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) conference on Tuesday, 17 December, before he visits British troops serving on Russia's border.
The Prime Minister will join leaders from the Nordics and Baltics to discuss support for Ukraine, the sustained threat posed by Russia, and wider European security.
Sir Keir will then visit British forces serving in the region to deter malign Russian threats.
We've known this for some time now, our Prime Minister is addicted to running away. Perhaps this time he's dreading Christmas with the family.
It also seems odd for the word 'live' to be associated with him. True in a biological sense presumably, but still odd. He give the impression of an old-fashioned automaton, a creature of cogs, wheels, springs and painted cotton assembled in a secluded workshop by a clockmaker. Or a toolmaker perhaps.

"Sir Keir will then visit British forces serving in the region" That will brighten their day . . . .
My suspicion is that he is a Manager, not a Leader, and definitely not a Hero.
When times are settled a Manager does just fine. When times are unsettled we want a Leader to give us direction. When catastrophe approaches, when the power goes out, we want a Hero to rescue us.
Who looks like a Hero in waiting?
Very dangerous for Starmer to visit troops.
"If this is what we're protecting, then I'm going to have to re-think my career plan..."
Or maybe that's the idea on some level.
"Or a toolmaker perhaps"
No, his father was a toolmaker - 2TK is just a tool...
Jannie - a rousing Starmer speech is bound to make their world seem so much brighter.
DJ - and not a very good Manager, the kind who ends up in Special Projects as retirement approaches. As for finding a Hero, they seem to be extinct.
Sam - I'm surprised he's allowed to visit the troops, a Starmer visit wouldn't be an encouraging experience for anyone.
Dave - a tool nobody has yet found a use for. Maybe that's why he's shoved onto a plane at every opportunity.
Starmer is a political actor, without an original thought in his tiny mind, merely doing and saying what the script he is given, by those really in charge of the country, says. Like all actors, he is disposable and replaceable which, I would suggest, will be sooner rather than later. Pre Frazer has been right all along.
Penseivat
Penseivat - that's what Dominic Cummings says about Cabinet meetings and it does fit what we see all the time - actors following a script while pretending they have landed a major role.
S, S, S Sta,Stammer is just this chap, just using the very much improved modern CGI and AI.

An uncannily accurate description; oddly enough, I thought exactly the same thing when I saw the footage, specifically Maillardet’s automaton:

Starmer’s eyes are smaller, but otherwise the resemblance is striking. I think the lack of facial mobility has much to do with it; I wonder if Lord Alli is treating him to regular Botox as well as designer-label goodies.
Doonhamer - it's odd how Starmer doesn't reflect all the improvements on Max Headroom though. Facial mobility is no more convincing and the AI aspect seems to be running on inexpensive hardware coupled to a great deal of pre-recorded stuff.
Macheath - I think you must be right, a development of Maillardet’s automaton with some of the mechanical operation replaced by electronics and a modern head. Less fascinating though, the ingenuity seems to have gone. The Botox idea sound interesting too - could be that.
You mean like the Chess playing Turk.

Doonhamer - at least there was a human inside that one, unlike the unconvincing Starmerbot.
