The PR attempt to separate JK Rowling from Harry Potter and why it's important
JK Rowling is absent from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone 25th anniversary events - whether the author has been or should be cancelled continues to obscure the future of the Boy Who Lived.
Rowling thinks, in some circumstances, women and girls should have the right to single-sex spaces - prompting accusations of transphobia, which she denies.
The controversy has rendered the author notably absent from anniversary celebrations - as was the case with the recent TV reunion - decisions widely presumed to be driven by the deepening controversy.
Rowling thinks = Virtually everyone knows

Have you ever met one of those trans activist types - the sort of people who believe Rowling is wrong, and who are vehemently against any single-sex spaces? I never have. I wonder who they are. And I wonder how they raise and present their ideas. I mean, any grumble about petrol prices or covid can give rise to a discussion about party politics.
But how do you even get started on the rights of big bearded blokes to use the ladies toilets?
Sam - I've never met a trans activist but I suppose we've all seen the blokes in dresses. A while back Mrs H encountered a bloke in a dress in the ladies toilet of cafe we visit. I've no idea how they raise and present their ideas - only in certain social situations is my guess.
Years ago (possibly 20) we were on holiday in Falmouth and went for a drink in the evening. There was a long haired male student type wearing a skirt in the pub, and we waited in some anticipation to see which toilets he would use. He used the male toilet.
Falmouth is famous for its School Of Art. Just sayin.
DJ - students are known for pushing boundaries, but maybe arts students have to push harder to be noticed at all. A while back we saw a couple of obvious blokes in dresses wandering around an antiques centre. They looked sad and undignified, perhaps because they didn't know how to be flamboyant enough to carry it off.
I can't suppress an ungentlemanly feeling of glee when any leftie is outflanked on the left: la révolution dévore ses enfants.
dearieme - if they had any sense they would support her in case they too are outflanked by something even crazier.
The TV presenters and guests who use the phrase 'I have several trans friends and...' are liars, end of story.
Wiggia - they are liars, but that seems to be part of the job.
