Virus II

From The Indian Express

With the PSL being cut short and all sports affected globally due to coronavirus, former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar lashed out at China for the spread of coronavirus, attacking them for ‘eating anything and everything.’

In his official Youtube channel, Akhtar said that he was ‘really angry’ and the Chinese have put the world at stake. “I don’t understand why you have to eat things like bats, drink their blood and urine and spread some virus across the globe… I’m talking about the Chinese people. They have put the world at stake. I really don’t understand how can you eat bats, dogs, and cats. I’m really angry,” Akhtar said.

Not everyone will put it like this, especially in the feeble West, but many people must see the coronavirus debacle in much the same way. How many people? Could be an absolutely vast number. Another of those developments which lie in the future. Interesting times indeed.

If we live long enough, we will probably be on the receiving end of Chinese imperialism, just as many countries have been on the receiving end of American imperialism. We will be to China what many Arab countries are to the USA. We will be puzzled as to why they have such influence and power, faintly contemptuous of them, and more than a little fearful.

And yes; eating bats. Really, do they need to?

I used to work with a couple of Chinese people and I think their first thoughts on seeing any animal were whether to place a bet on it or how best to eat it. The lady, however, was scared of spiders

Stay well. Self isolate. :)

It becomes a personal battle here in 'The Turrets'.

Self-isolating isn't really a problem, until we run out of commodities, but getting things done at home is a priority now, but why not, it always used to be...

Sam - if we ever are on the receiving end of Chinese imperialism, maybe diet is a factor. Perhaps we should have stayed with roast beef.

Graeme - maybe spiders aren't very nutritious. They certainly don't look nutritious.

James - it's hard - no cafes or coffee shops.

Scrobs - we are getting things done too and as you say, we used to do it.
