Can the BBC be cured?

From the BBC we are told of moves to cure it of something. Apparently it must  "guard its unique selling point of impartiality" without having to admit that it isn't actually impartial. Oh well, it may be a step forward but it's a pretty hesitant one.

New UK Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has said the BBC needs to do more to reflect the country's "genuine diversity of thought and experience".

Mr Dowden, who recently succeeded Nicky Morgan, made the comments in his first speech in the role on Thursday.

He also warned that the broadcaster must "guard its unique selling point of impartiality in all of its output".

And he questioned whether the BBC is "ready to embrace proper reform to ensure its long-term sustainability".

Trying to cure the BBC's cultural crony virus perhaps?

Okay I'll get me coat.

All they need to do is keep up with the advertising side of the commercial channels and broadcast 80% mixed race output. That will reflect everyone's experience, won't it?

The BBC have made some important strides towards reflecting diversity, but there are not yet enough dramas featuring disabled lesbian jihadis who get paid less than their male colleagues.

Many years ago I worked for a lighting company: we did an installation in one of the largest local government offices in South Yorkshire. Afterwards I remarked to a colleague that it wasn't surprising that we never saw any ugly mixed-race single mothers on the city's streets: they all worked for the council . . .
No prizes for guessing the colour of the council!

It's far too late to cure the BBC, they've been on a downward trend for ages now, and the recent General Election, and superb Brexit result, has shown them up for the poor tax-funded 'service' they are.

Unfortunately, normal people cannot trust the government to do much about the BBC, they still get £4bn a year to squander on trash and pap, with their obvious bias in-built and ridiculous stance on leftie paradise.

Subscription only is the only way they can survive, but I bet Mr Dowden will kick it all into the long grass, like Whittington did.

Sorry, Whittingdale...

Whittington was all for turning too!

Jannie - the TV ads we see certainly tend to display a population which doesn't exist.

Sam - and if a BBC drama did feature disabled lesbian jihadis who get paid less than their male colleagues, nobody would be surprised.

Scrobs - I'm sure you will turn out to be right - Mr Dowden will kick it all into the long grass. It is probably a warning shot from a strong government, nothing more.
