Joe Biden was not arrested in South Africa while trying to see Nelson Mandela, his campaign has conceded.
The US presidential contender had repeatedly said he was arrested during a trip there in the 1970s, when South Africa was under apartheid.
But a deputy campaign managers told reporters Mr Biden had been referring to an episode where he was "separated" from black colleagues at an airport.
Mr Biden is counting on black support to win South Carolina on Saturday.
Clearly the Democrats need to do something here, something
to reassure voters that they have sound group of candidates battling for the
presidential nomination. This is merely a suggested starting point but maybe voter reassurance could be along these lines –
- Bernie Sanders has never been medically certified as insane.
- Elizabeth Warren isn’t the horrible shrieking harridan she appears to be.
- Mike Bloomberg understands ordinary folk as only a guy worth over $60 billion can.
- Pete Buttigieg isn’t the biggest wuss ever to stand as a presidential candidate.
Obviously it needs more elaboration but in a nutshell that should do it as a viable starting point.

James - poor enough to make a chap lose confidence in democratic politics.
I can only assume that the intelligent democrats - and there must be some somewhere - have decided that defeating Trump is too big an ask, so are patiently watching from the sidelines.

I think the intelligent Democrats have realise that the Hard Left have infiltrated the Democrat Party rather in the way they have the Labour Party, and anyone who puts their head above the parapet and isn't offering to open the borders, give everyone (including all the immigrants) a free pony, turn the entire country over to trans nutters and nationalise everything else is going to get their head shot off by the woke brigade, and stands not a snowball's chance in hell of becoming the candidate. One suspects they're sitting on their hands in the hope that Sanders (or another Hard Left candidate) will lose hard against Trump and they can get their party back.
Poor bunch really.
They're the sort of sorry lot who'll be told that 'they'll be at the back of the queue' by normal people!

Sam and Sobers - that's what I assume too, but I'm uneasy about his success and the reasons for it.

Edward - what puzzles me about such outrageous lies is that they don't finish political careers. Lying seems to be accepted as part of the game.
