Bogus Buxton Beggar

From Derbyshire Constabulary -

A woman has been fined by the courts for bogus begging in Buxton.

Police were called to the Spring Gardens on Thursday, July 26 to reports of begging.

Kristina Sliskova, 28, of Fairfield Road, Buxton, was arrested for begging in a public place and enquiries revealed she was not homeless.

She was reported to court and appeared at Chesterfield Justice Centre on Wednesday, August 22.

Magistrates fined Ms. Sliskova £40 and ordered her to pay £85 costs.

PC Julie Shaw of the Buxton Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We are aware of a number of individuals in Buxton who sit on the street, alleging to be homeless, to beg for money when we have information and intelligence that suggests they do have homes.

It's official - "homeless" beggars are not necessarily homeless.

As if we didn't know.

My brother tells a story about being on the London tube years ago when a dirty, dishevelled woman got on. She was cradling a tiny baby in one arm, and had a dirty piece of cardboard in the other hand. She passed round the carriage, standing close to each sitting passenger in turn, and held up the cardboard placard in front of their face. On it, in felt pen, was something like " I No speak English. From Bosnia. All family killed. I raped. Baby very sick, need food. Please help."

This being London, passengers pretended to read, looked straight through the woman, or tutted and told her to move along. But one city gent was either extremely charitable, or had lunched very well. He peered at the card, dug in his pocket, and presented her with a tenner. "Jesus, mate, you're an absolute diamond" said the woman. "I'll never forget this - you're the only one who's shown any sympathy all day!"

Begging has been made illegal, not that it has stopped the homeless with dog from leaving a tin by their side, and what is the differenc between begging and busking other than one makes a bloody awful noise.

Sam - crikey it is almost possible to admire her audacity and wonder why it was not used more profitably. I wonder if the baby was borrowed.

Wiggia - yes some buskers are terrible, as if they are looking for sympathy.
