They may be over 80 years old, but a collection of stylish photographs are causing some intrigue at a famous clothing company in Lea.
Workers at John Smedley Ltd at Lea Mill are researching its archive and have unearthed stills of a beautiful model for which they are appealing to Mercury readers for information.
The professional black and white pictures are thought to have been taken sometime in the 1930s and there are hopes that details of the woman can be pieced together.

SV - and such a pity "The Duke" wasn't quite the gentleman he seemed. Chatsworth may be just over the hill, but unfortunately so was he.

DD - you need to think of something else surely - getting up early is too extreme.
JH - yes and the dress makes it obvious in an understated way - compared to today.
When we lived in the north we often dropped in on the John Smedley factory shop. It was good then and our purchases are still good now. My educated guess is that it is a local girl from one or other works at the time on whom a professional photographer had worked
D - I think you are right. John Smedley would probably have used a local photographer and almost certainly a local girl.
