Councillor claims people being made 'poorer' due to net zero targets
Lancashire residents are being made “poorer” by “unachievable” attempts to hit net zero targets by 2050, according to the new environment cabinet member at Lancashire County Council. Reform UK’s Joshua Roberts criticised the government’s legally binding carbon reduction commitments – and also left unanswered a direct question about whether he even accepted “the science” behind climate change.

"But they're so slow at their lessons," grumbled Joan. "One repeats it and repeats it; and then, when one feels that surely now at least one has drummed it into their heads, one finds they have forgotten all that one has ever said."

With a pleasing aptness, I’m reminded of Aesop’s fable of the North wind and the sun competing to see which is stronger.
Sadly, in the face of such obtuse intransigence, there is nothing we can do but clutch our metaphorical cloaks (and purse strings) ever tighter.
Twould be nice to see Miliband in jaunty outfit of black and white hoops, occasionally allowed out into the exercise yard.
One of my old lecturers explained that he would repeat important things three times. The first time to alert the ears, the second time to alert the comprehension, and the third time to make the words settle as permanent knowledge.
I believe there are too many people who work hard in 'alerting the ears' but fail to (or cannot) engage the listeners comprehension or acquisition of permanent knowledge.
I'm looking at you Net Zero although other fables are available.
Macheath - especially our purse strings, but it's strange how the obtuse intransigence is so obviously obtuse intransigence, as if many influential people still can't accept that the curtain has been drawn back.
James - it would be nice, especially if the exercise yard has a public viewing gallery.
DJ - it seems to be a problem with language in that words don't convince. People who are fascinated by new or better alternatives to their customary language can be convinced by words, but for many it doesn't seem to work like that. Talking to an ideologue can be like talking to the ideology, not the person.
