A very set view of the world

Nottinghamshire County Council staff 'in tears' following Reform UK victory

An outgoing Nottinghamshire county councillor claims some staff on the authority were "in tears" after finding out that Reform UK were taking over. Nigel Farage's party secured a convincing majority on Nottinghamshire County Council following elections on Thursday (May 1)...

Councillor Zadrozny, who still leads Ashfield District Council, said: "I've had senior officers in tears to me today saying they're looking for other jobs because they're just terrified at the public services that they've worked and cared for being thrown out the window by not just inexperienced councillors, but people who have a very set view of the world. I had one in tears to me today saying 'I hope they make me redundant' and that was a director."

An anecdote such as this can't bear much weight, but it does throw out a few interesting hints.

Reform councillors may come up against all kind of obstructions from staff with "a very set view of the world." Some new councillors may be surprised at how ruthlessly comfort zones are protected. A few may wish they hadn't bothered.

Yes, an anecdote that can't bear much weight. Senior professionals actually crying because there might be changes in how they are required to do their job? Do they cry over potholes and rubbish schools? Do they blub over parking charges and street lights?

Basil Kalashnikov would be delirious, but there again, so would Cynthia Molestrangler...

dearieme - that's what new Reform councillors are going to think.

Sam - the prospect of being assessed by experienced people from outside seems to be very disturbing for some.

Scrobs - Shep's 'Election Consolation', (9.4abv) may have something to do with them being delirious.
