Google's original mission statement was 'Don't be evil'. But they can become grasping and manipulative? Hmm.

Just watching this now and more from him too. Advertisers’ angle. Then there is our angle too … the potential consumer.

Tammly - yes, size seems to change any organisation by attracting grasping and manipulative people.

James - what surprises me is how the whole idea of targeted ads doesn't seem to work, it ends up more like the kind of junk mail which goes straight into the bin.

djc - the ads I see are remarkably wide of the mark, things I never buy, airlines I never use, holiday destinations I'd never consider. As if it's mostly random.

Yes, online is mostly random— i have an effective ad-blocker and cookie cleaner. But turn off the blocker, or tick the box for 'join our mailing list' and there is a never ending stream of solicitations for things that few people would buy more than a few in a lifetime.
