As soon as I stumbled across this, it struck me as the kind of thing the BBC might put together as a TV series to prepare us for Net Zero. Maybe they have already, or maybe the only thing holding them back is having to suggest that this is how things are going.

The BBC is shameless. Last week they had a "news" programme which had items on both big Government expenditure on big North Sea spinning Mercedes logos and skyrocketing price of domestic energy without anybody mentioning there might be a link.
Wonderful video which still leaves me mildly perplexed as to whether it is amateurishly earnest or a parody. Either way, I'm going to look out those terra-cotta plant pots.
Yep, that plant pot idea is the best takeaway from the video. Ten years ago I bought a couple of hundred tea lights in closing down sale for pennies. Just a small way of preparing for the inevitable. My shed is always kept fully stocked with logs, if a neighbour fells a tree I'm on the scrounge and always keep a minimum four hundred kilos of smokeless fuel put by.
I think it's satirical.
If you think the BBC is shameless, take a daily dip into their Climate tab. It is pure propaganda without any self-awareness.
The problem with using these tips under "Net Zero" is that electricity probably won't be available when you need it, so there's no guarantee that you'll be able to have that hot breakfast, lunch, mug of tea/coffee etc. At any rate, not the way he showed them...
Doonhamer - it comes across as amateurish too, as if there is nobody left to point out the omissions and contradictions.
Sam - I thought warming shoes with a hair dryer indicated parody, but I wouldn't put money on it as tips like this are not uncommon.
Andy - I'm thinking of stocking up with smokeless fuel but storage would be an issue. At the moment I just use logs.
Mark - you could be right, warming shoes with a hair dryer indicated parody to me but I'm not absolutely sure. I don't think I could stomach the BBC climate tab, it's too far gone, like trying to understand where Jehovah's Witnesses are coming from.
microdave - I assume he's relying on the windmills and solar panels working away 24/7 in the background.
"Warming shoes with a hairdryer"
Not a parody - I do that!
Don't bother with the candles and terracotta pots, it is an old 'keep the frost at bay' trick for the greenhouse but the effect is minimal, I know I tried it years ago.
microdave - in that case I'll try it myself, although I generally just wear thick socks.
Wiggia - I'm not surprised - there isn't enough energy in the candle wax.
