What else could he do? He clearly has no answer to the criticism, as he would have already made it. Just sitting there and taking it would have made him look even more stupid and weak than walking out. At least walking out allows him to say that he was insulted, or that their arguments were beneath consideration, or maybe even that he needed a toilet break.
