The Simpsons' forecast

For amusement only of course, but public health is not the only aspect of the coronavirus debacle. The virus is certainly real but the pandemic lockdown seems to have some long-term policy aims too. Possibly opportunist and possibly not, but not necessarily related to public health.

I used to think that the long-term aim was clapping, but that seems to have gone off the boil for a bit. Then masks, but that never caught on so much. Hand-washing has certainly been given a boost.

If anything, "having a massive emotional reaction on demand" seems to have been the common factor.

Sam - I think your last aim is correct, "having a massive emotional reaction on demand" or HAMEROD as the movers and shakers probably call it.

The Spiteful Nannying Party were worried the economy might recover before they could blame the eeevil tories so have tried to cripple reopening shops by making face nasks mandatory.
This is known to be at best mildly harmful, so malice seems the most likely motivation.

Nessimmersion - I'm sure you are right and malice is also a major aspect of much political posturing.
