Today, walking by the river Wye from Monsal Head we found the old weir has been fenced off using barbed wire and stern notices. Seems odd as the weir has been accessible for as long as I can remember. Certainly since my parents brought us as youngsters.
Yes it is dangerous, but it looks dangerous and sounds dangerous. As does the A38. There will be reasons of course, there are always reasons for making things that bit crappier.

It's a small-scale domestic version of the "War on Terror". It's called the "War on Danger". Naked flames, heavy objects, and sharp edges will all have to be labelled, and there are plans in the EU to ban them altogether. Certainly, if you have lots of them together, such as in a bonfire or a cutlery drawer, you'll need a permit.
A good chum of ours lost her kitchen scissors recently, and went to buy a new pair.
Waitrose? Nope - not allowed!
Tesco - Ditto!
Chemist - Ditto, but as we're all chums, a whisper and a small finger pointed her to a dressmaker's shop!
A whole blasted drawer full of the most evil weapons of dress destruction you can imagine! Rules? Never heard of 'em!
That view needs to be bottled, Mr H! Reminds me of Symonds Yat, with better beer!
Sam - can't fill the cutlery drawer with plastic knives and forks either, now plastic has become so appalling.
Scrobs - Symonds Yat brings back memories - Mrs H and I went camping somewhere near there before the kids came along.
