You can't fool me. Joe Theisman ("The is-man"; emblematic of existence itself, defined by the definite article, yet simultaneously an "ordinary Joe") is obviously another Calvino character.
Sam - he may be, but I'm not sure if Calvino could ever have dreamed up "Norman Einstein".
