BBC warned it faces 'last chance' after Trump meltdown: Labour MPs scramble to prop up the broadcaster - with Starmer silent
Ministers and Labour MPs are scrambling to prop up the national broadcaster following a direct attack from the US President overnight.
Mr Trump described Mr Davie and BBC journalists as 'very dishonest' and a 'terrible thing for democracy'.
The intervention leaves Keir Starmer - who has so far remained silent on the developments - walking a diplomatic tightrope.
If nothing else it's good to see the turmoil, accusations and finger-pointing, but I still wouldn't bet on significant reform.
Hope I'm wrong though - what a day that would be.

It seems tricky to access the full Michael Prescott email because of the paywalls in place. However a pdf copy may be found here:

Clearly it is not ‘just’ the manipulation of the Trump speech that exposes the BBC to well warranted criticism. There are also sections on
– Racial diversity
– Biological sex and gender
– Israel/Hamas war
The conclusion ends with “My hope is that the BBC Board may be able to begin a process of getting these issues properly addressed.” In my opinion the BBC is well beyond any hope of returning to impartiality. We should defund the BBC.
DJ - thanks, very interesting, I've passed the link to our son who will be interested. It raises some very difficult questions about the moral compass of BBC journalists and editorial staff if they thought they were doing 'the right thing'.

I agree, there is a problem with licence fee funding which cannot be resolved without abolition - it doesn't work and the BBC has managed to demonstrate that it can't work and has to go.
