Kristian Niemietz on political correctness

Not a new angle on political correctness but it may be worth noting how strongly Brexit Remainers have tried to present their position as the higher status position. For many Remainers, the social status of Remain seems to be the only significant issue.

He's good. I like the premise behind what he is saying - that a more "correct" view is one which allows us to explain more of the phenomenon. We certainly do need to explain why PC types have an inordinate interest in policing trivia, while turning a blind eye to flagrant injustices. The idea that it is merely an opinion associated with high status certainly does that.

I'm not sure if he manages to explain why certain causes get to be high status. Why Brexit, for example is not higher status than remain; or why some groups do better in the "oppression olympics" than others.

Sam - I'm not sure why leave is lower status than remain, but I assume EU propaganda does work on certain people. A suspicion that leave is not the cosmopolitan outlook may be enough. Little Englander jibes probably worked.
