That's a new one - the London El Niño

Met Office issues polar vortex update amid London El Nino fears

The Met Office has issued an update on the polar vortex that could cause chaos in London and across the UK this winter.

An unprecedented “Godzilla” El Niño event is set to hit the capital this winter, on the back of a record setting dry and hot summer.

The incoming El Niño, a natural climate pattern characterised by the warming of sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, could be one of the worst on record, according to experts.

Let us check the thoroughly scientific journalese -

Cue Ian Holm, hunched over his computer in a hat and woollen mittens:
“When this storm is over we’ll be in a new ice age”.

I learnt the other day that a big El Nino implies a season of few Atlantic/Caribbean hurricanes. And sure enough, there have been zero reach land in this hurricane season. Are we invited to celebrate?

Macheath - I had to look that up although I did watch the film. Bonkers I thought at the time, but that may have something to do with being too wary of climate propaganda. It can work both ways.

dearieme - maybe the BBC will commission a special programme about the benefits of El Nino offsetting some of the damaging consequences. Or maybe I'll win the lottery without buying a ticket.
