Although it may be true that Stumbler cannot force a General Election that depends on there being enough people supporting another leader to win the confidence of the House.

But if Labour are riven by their differences (more than usual) and no obvious leader can take control then perhaps the King would be prepared to grant a General Election just to clear the decks.

I doubt that Stumbler would seek a General Election, but a cornered rat might lash out. If the King chose to deny the request then that would leave the Labour Party in a very bad place.

If even I knew that I suspect that most Labour MPs know it too. What on earth made Sir Dull Dimwit think he could frighten them with his threat of the big, bad wolf?

DJ - yes, Labour needs a clear favourite to give at least a temporary semblance of confidence. Presumably quiet deals are being made about Ministerial positions in return for supporting X, but that very bad place could still arise. Enough MPs may conclude that Starmer has to stay for long enough to avoid an even worse shambles.

dearieme - I'm not sure, maybe it was just habitual dishonesty.
