Seems inevitable really...

Seems inevitable really - sooner or later I'll have to find out who Lizzo is beyond the headlines. It's not a question of wanting to know, it's an effect of the internet. Once headlines are scanned, it is no longer possible to be entirely oblivious and somehow partially oblivious, knowing little more than the name isn't quite adequate.

I know - I'll put it off until we've been out for a coffee. Maybe then the headlines will have changed.

Lizzo's future is hanging in the balance - will she survive?

Lizzo has won four Grammys, an Emmy and single-handedly made it cool to play the flute - but it's her work to make being plus-sized a positive that won her a legion of fans. Now the star's facing multiple claims of weight shaming - all of which she denies.

What’s a Lizzo? A lesbo? A lizard?

I briefly checked it out yesterday, given that the BBC seemed to think the story was so important.

If I were you, I'd make that two coffees. With proper cream. Maybe with a dash of brandy. And a danish pastry. When you've done it, you'll have deserved a little treat.

A lady of more than adequate dimensions but with little discernible talent.

The commentator observing that it was she who made flute playing ‘cool,’ has obviously never heard of Ian Anderson / Jethro Tull.

James - I don't know but it looks big.

Sam - good advice, the Danish pastry was still slightly warm and the coffee excellent. No cream or brandy but maybe this afternoon...

Anon - ah, so she plays the flute. I didn't know that, but she seems to have the lungs for it.

As an additional observation - have you noticed how skewed the news items are on the front page of bbc.co.uk?

There's a little bit of world news (often complaining how ordinary people are feeling), some personal interest news (usually featuring women or LGBetc.), and a fair bit of sporting news. All rounded out by some celebrity pontificating about their success/tribulations. It's just a gossip mag made digital. Even Sky does more news reporting.

Defund the BBC.

DJ - I'm pleased somebody else has noticed that because it certainly does come across as a digital gossip mag. I go there for a quick look at what is presumably mainstream, but I'm still mildly surprised at how little it resembles a sober national media outfit. Can't wait to ditch the serious stuff and get into the glitzy gossip - that's my impression.

BBC news is part of the “circuses” piece of “bread and circuses”.

Peter - and many of the clowns think they are ring masters.
