Maybe it's tired of fish

A sad story but also odd. Maybe the oddity is because we expect animals to be rational, at least within their limitations. Humans not so much.

I find it odd that nobody has ever introduced penguins to Greenland or Polar Bears to Antarctica.

Where better to farm them? Right climate but no specialised parasites.

P.S. We once visited a colony of Fairy Penguins in South Australia.
What argumentative wee buggers they are. Plenty of charm, though.
They wouldn't need Greenland - the British Isles might suit them well.

Do you think Penguin and Chips wold sell?

I'm sure they do that, but the edited shots, quasi-religious music, and portentous German voice-over all make it seem much more significant than it is.

Herzog is a great film-maker, primarily because he can make a film of paint drying seem like Götterdämmerung.

dearieme - I have a vague recollection of an Antarctic explorer saying that penguin tastes fishy so maybe that's the reason.

Sam - I didn't particularly notice the film-makers art, just the behaviour of the penguin. After watching it again it would certainly be better without the music, just the penguin's behaviour and a simple description would be enough.
