Corbyn endorses nice weather

From the BBC we have exciting news about Jeremy Corbyn's demand that the government should do its bit to ensure nice weather forever.

MPs have approved a motion to declare an environment and climate emergency.

This proposal, which demonstrates the will of the Commons on the issue but does not legally compel the government to act, was approved without a vote.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who tabled the motion, said it was "a huge step forward".

Environment Secretary Michael Gove acknowledged there was a climate "emergency" but did not back Labour's demands to declare one.

It is difficult to see where the Conservatives can go on this one. Over the longer term voters will soon notice if the weather is significantly better under Labour governments. Especially if Conservative governments make it more likely that Brighton will be washed away by a hurricane or Norfolk is flooded by monsoon rains every year.

Sorry, AKH, your attempt at satirising the news has, for once, failed.

The facts are thus. Corbyn, who has had zero interest in climate change until London was taken over by teenagers last week, has tabled a motion declaring an emergency. It wasn't voted on, but was passed anyway. Despite there now being an emergency, nothing is going to be done. But it's a "huge step forward". The person in charge of government environment policy agrees with Corbyn that there is indeed an emergency, but has declined to declare it as such. Several UK towns have already declared we have an emergency, but have different ideas as to what this means.

Give up. AKH! You can't improve on the facts as reported by the BBC.

You mean there’ll be another Labour govt?

Sam - but if I resort to facts what happens to my cheque from Big Oil? I haven't received one yet but I live in hope, so no facts here I'm afraid.

James - I certainly hope not, otherwise we'll have much more than the climate to worry about.
