One pinnacle of credulity to another

All her life she had always been persuaded that she saw what people meant; and the conviction had borne her triumphantly from one pinnacle of credulity to another.

Edith Wharton - Hudson River Bracketed (1929)

May or may not apply, but I sometimes wonder if those inside the political bubble understand those outside. So often bubble dwellers behave as if they have become far too familiar with imposing their own meaning on everything, as if they have mislaid the ability to see what people mean beyond the bubble.

Yes, an excellent point. The ideologue is best equipped for survival within the party system and the media circus, yet is the most blind to what is actually going on in other people's lives.

Sam has said it in one line, the only difference I would make is the blindness, I think most are very aware of what is going on outside, but as has been seen with Brexit, party loyalty, survival and career greasy pole come before the country and the people, my MP is a classic example of that supposedly leave but invisible least he loses his "extras".

Sam - and finding out what is actually going on in other people's lives could be unrewarding within the bubble because once brought inside it won't fit bubble narratives.

Wiggia - it isn't easy to work out how much they know - possibly less than we might assume.

Demetrius - if only they would learn that less trouble means less toil.
