From the BBC
David Cameron has described the Pope as "fantastically keen on Catholicism" in a conversation with the Queen.
The PM was talking about the forthcoming religious summit when he made the comments.
In a far less controversial vein Mr Cameron also suggested that Nigeria and Afghanistan are the most corrupt regimes in the entire universe. Her Majesty was seen to respond with the faintest hint of a shrug.
5 comments:
Nigeria Afghanistan corrupt, EU equally corrupt and how much do we still give to each, Cameron is really not very good at any of this Prime minesterial stuff is he ? in fact about from permanent malfeasance he's not very good at anything.
Pots and kettles come to mind.
I love this bit from the BBC report:
"We've got some leaders of some fantastically corrupt countries coming to Britain... Nigeria and Afghanistan, possibly the two most corrupt countries in the world," he was overheard saying.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, elected last year after vowing to fight corruption, said he was "shocked".
Presumably the President considers that he has already sorted the problem, and is shocked that Cameron is living in the past...
Meanwhile, Her Majesty is left wondering whether she was a bit rash in giving her bank details to that nice man who emailed her from Nigeria regarding his uncle's legal difficulties.
Well, her Maj and Cameron should know. Throughout our history wars have depended on political officers doling out bribe money so that our armies can march unmolested through this and that territory. That is how the Empire got built. Then we must consider just how your average freedom fighter turned national leader gets to learn the more arcane tricks of international money laundering. With the help of consultants and advisers supplied by erm you know who.
The world has never been run by squeaky clean honest people and probably never will be. I hope the conference serves up decently cold champagne.
Wiggia - he isn't very good is he? One blunder after another. It's a good job Jeremy is there to scare Conservatives into Cameron's arms.
Demetrius - can't mention the word "black" though.
Sam - I wonder if Cameron has received a few of those emails too?
Roger - it all seems to be exposed to more daylight than in the past. Whether this changes things I've no idea, but more censorship seems be likely. Whether or not it is technically possible I'm not so sure.
