Herlock Buxton
Back in 1975 John Swallow visits 73 year old Herlock Buxton, who has never left the village of Elton in Derbyshire during his lifetime, except for a single trip to Derby when he was a boy.
Elton is a tiny village not so far from where we live. Very pleasant and set in fine walking country, but how anyone could spend their entire life there I don't know. Presumably he didn't think enough of Derby to go back - ever.

According to Wikipedia the "Duke of York" is a very good pub'. Who needs more? Also, speaking from experience, back in those days Derby station would put anyone off travelling.
Elton - John?
Demetrius - yes, a snug cottage, a good pub and plenty to do. What more does a chap need?
James - I hope not.
I was in Derby on Thursday, and I can see his point. The poor bloke probably thought that everywhere outside Elton was like Derby.
Sam - we rarely visit Derby, or any other cities for that matter. You could have dropped me an email and I'd have joined you for a coffee.
