The Listeners

I'm reading a collection of de la Mare's short stories at the moment. I've read him on and off for years and never tire of  his extraordinarily subtle and spooky imagination.

"And how the silence surged softly backward" What a wonderful line. I used to know this poem by heart, but haven't heard it for years. And is that Vaughan Williams, "The Lark Ascending" in the background? Thank you

Andy - I'm pleased you liked it. I used to know it by heart too and yes, the music is "The Lark Ascending".

He's superb, isn't he? My personal favourite is "The Wharf". Both spooky and uplifting, which is doubly difficult.

Sam - I shall be reading "The Wharf" soon.

James - it is wonderful. I sometimes stop reading and just let it float through my mind.
