Putting the clock back

Well here we are again - we've wound the clocks back an hour. Fortunately many are now radio controlled, but the absurdity of it grates.

Grey dusk falls an hour earlier, the lights go on an hour earlier and yet again our sanity is called into question. Why bother? What difference does it make?

Yes we all know the arguments, but they don't amount to anything worth discussing. Hours of daylight are not changed by a single millisecond. It's as daft as trying to change the climate by buying a Toyota Prius. Who on earth would do that?

It always annoys, doesn't it. I thought it was all to help farmers in the Outer Hebrides or something who would otherwise have to get up at 8am to do something inexplicable...they need to be able to get up when the sun is at a certain height to do whatever it is they do...and that time has to be called 7am. Meanwhile the rest of us trudge home from work in the doom and gloom.

And Portugal and Ireland still cope somehow with being an hour ahead of us. It is a tough thing to explain.

My problem is that it takes me six months to get used to it.

Graeme - "that time has to be called 7am"

That's the issue isn't it - why can't we adapt with the seasons?

Demetrius - that's awkward!

Only the State would imagine you can take an hour off one end of the day, tack it on the other end, and however get a longer day as a result.

Gives us something to moan about I suppose.

WY - yes it's bonkers when you put it like that. It does give us something to moan about though and that's probably the reason for doing it.
