Right brain left brain

Stare at this picture and you will see this man turn his face.

Apparently, if you see the picture with the face towards you, you are using the left side of your brain. If when you stare at it without thinking you see the figure shift to face away from you because you are using your right brain. You can switch back and forth.

Stare to go to right brain without thinking of anything in particular. Begin thinking and reasoning about it and you will move back to left brain thinking. .

Apparently.

Interesting - but I would need a bit of convincing about the "left/right" bit. If it were true, then presumably the phenomenon could be used to "activate" the hemisphere one chooses. This would be desirable, and as such someone would market it in order to make money. They haven't (in any big way, anyway) so it's not true.

(That's obviously my left brain speaking...)

Sam - I agree, it's obviously not true. I can easily see the supposed right brain image while thinking. For example I can examine the image or just think of other things.

I think it is just another optical illusion - or at least that's what my left brain says.

Does my head in, that does.

Interesting. I wonder what "split brain" patients see, given their corpus callosum has severed the conncection between the two hemispheres. They perhaps see the two options but without realising it

Though I agree with the scepticism about the right/left brain explanation.

What does it mean if the heads spins round?

James - both sides?

Don - if the right/left explanation is wrong maybe they would see it as we do - sometimes one way, sometimes the other.

Angus - it means you've been buying Tesco Value painkillers (:
