From the 'engineering' it seems this has happened before and the ironmongery has been suitably 'scaled' to do the job. And it worked, no bending and the concrete didn't shift - excellent.If in doubt make it stout, out of things you know about.
Roger - yes, the concrete round the base looks newer than that yellow line.
They should make "Keep Left" signs out of the same stuff.
