Huge

source

The family were watching television when the detectives came in, on a huge console model with a twenty-three inch screen;
John Buxton Hilton - Hangman's Tide (1975)

I'm not sure the test card was ever that interesting even on a huge console model. Better than Terry and June I suppose.

I have this image of a nice sitting room where detectives burst into the room riding on a brown-box telly.

Around that period it might well have been the only thing worth watching.

Definitely better than Terry and June, but the test card always had competition in our house from the interval, the never ending river, the potters wheel..........joy

Roger - a modern flat screen TV would be big enough is used like a flying carpet. Sounds like a short story.

Demetrius - Hancock was good, but after East Cheam there wasn't much.

Wiggia - yes I liked the potters' wheel too - restful.
