Do masks really work?

I suppose compulsory vaping could at least allow people to avoid the deadly exhalations of others. Maybe Matt and co should start school children on basic vaping lessons.

The stupidity about these face-nappies is on a par with believing in a flat Earth.

Approximate diameters:

Coronavirus 125nm (0.125microns, or 0.000125mm)

Smallest pollen grain (forget-me-not) 10micron (0.01mm) This is 80 times larger than the coronavirus.

Pollen grains may be up to 200micron (0.2mm)

As hay-fever sufferers report no reduction in their symptoms despite wearing these covers, it seems likely they trap nothing at all! But they do reduce your oxygen levels and increase moisture levels, which could allow bacterial infections to enter.

Ed - yes, when wearing them it soon becomes obvious that they can't work. The best they might do is contain a certain amount of projectile sneezing.

To believe in the efficacy of masks takes more than an element of double-think. The "informed" view is that they protect other people from me. But most mask wearers don't wear their masks properly, so the protection is, if anything, weak.

The consensus of the noisy ignorantia is that they protect me from other people. This makes little logical sense - I might as well be wearing a length of chain link fence. And again, I would have to be wearing it properly.

An alternative view is being formulated that says that it infects me with a mild dosage of the disease. I suppose that for this rationale, it is not essential for me to be wearing it properly.

The thing is that each rationale contradicts the others. And they assume that covid19 is everywhere waiting to descend upon us.

It is like carrying an apple stuffed with spices during the plague. Don't we know any more about disease control than 17thc peasants?

Why not put your trust in a puppet of Sooty instead?

Graeme - an apple stuffed with spices sounds like a good idea to me. We have some windfalls which would be suitable.
