Photo from 2015 |
As it was fine and sunny today we settled on a drive out to
Bakewell. A lovely drive it was too, meandering through a snowy landscape under
a blue sky. As in the 2015 photo above, there was not much snow but enough to whiten the fields and create one of
those bright winter days which are so exhilarating.
Gingerly navigating icy pavements in Bakewell wasn’t quite
so much fun but there were far fewer people than usual and no traffic queues.
The drive back was enjoyable too. Before it turns to slush and crud, a real winter can
be beautiful.

“Enough to whiten the fields”
Could almost be a song.
Down here in the Weald we had a few flakes, but alas, nothing settled.
In my part of Shropshire we had six inches of snow. It is still lingering, I ventured out to unearth my car this afternoon!
That's a lovely photo.
We're in The Weald too, Sam, and the car park in a nearby Waitrose is like a skating rink, so looking at views came second to looking for black ice; more's the pity...
It was horrible yesterday though!
James - you wouldn't want to hear me sing it though.
Sam - nothing settled? Brexit snow we could call it.
Cherry - these days we put the car in the garage. First time for decades that we've kept the garage empty but worth it in winter especially when we are on the early school run.
Sackers - it's a lovely spot so even a point and shoot guy like me can take a reasonable photo.
Scrobs - we wear walking boots in icy conditions. No guarantee against slips but better than shoes.
