The power crunch

And no one can reach you, no one can alter you, poor little bundle of others’ thoughts; for there is nothing left to reach.

Fear not; that diesel STOR stuff will see us through - possibly. At least they're a bit better 'hidden' than windmills but I'm guessing a tad noisier when they have to fire them all up. But the fumes, given the right conditions, should create some quite spectacular rainbow effects over the country.
And where's the vast quantities of fuel STORed to keep those babies running? On site?

During the 1940's conspiracy theorists on our street claimed that the government had reduced the shillings being minted so that people would not have any to put in the meters and so would reduce use and prevent power cuts. In the last few days my supplier has suddenly shortened the time period for billing. I wonder?

Mac - anyone for smog?

Demetrius - we are on Direct Debit which seems to mean they borrow money off us in payment for electricity and gas we haven't yet used.

Interesting, isn't it? They claim that gives one the cheapest energy. When I lived on my own and had a solar heated water system backed up by natural parsimoniousness, the amount I used never caught up with the lowest DD I was allowed to pay the blighters. What to do? Pay more per unit (10%, I think it was) or extend their credit indefinitely?

Sam - if we had low carbon money, maybe they could burn all that excess DD cash to generate power.
