Virgin is great. Fast, reliable, up all day every day. Had two breakdown in 18 months, both fixed within two hours
BT broadband is a huge pile of stinking horse/beef manure. Down 3 days out of . Shite customer service, and as slow as a constipated greyhound shit when it is working. And that's BR business broadband, not the dogarse slow home version
A long shot, but we had problems in 2011 with ours shutting down regularly between 7 and 9am.
It turned out that, when the postman remotely locked his car just outside our house, our internet shut down until he returned and unlocked it.
Once we worked it out, we tried it out with his help and got the same result nearly every time. He's very grateful; since he got the car, he said, his own BT internet had been cutting out repeatedly when he was at home.
The car manufacturers and BT deny this is possible but it might be worth checking on the vehicles of people working nearby - the postman parks elsewhere now and things have been running smoothly since.

Diesel - thanks, I'll take a look at Virgin.
Mac - I'll make a note of the cars in the street next time it happens, although I don't think it's an interference issue - the hub seems okay.
"it goes off yet aga" - keeps going?
Well, an Aga is built like that. A good Aga will not let you down like this BT rubbish.
Sam - but Aga download speeds are rubbish when you are making a hotpot.
I've had issues too. Business version is apparently worse.
James - BT seem to get a lot of faults. Maybe it's partly a size issue, but I wouldn't use BT for business.
