It seems an age ago but my parents thought they were moving up in the world when they had both jam *and* butter in a jam sandwich.

DJ - I don't remember an upgrade like that, although I do remember bread and butter only, sometimes with sugar sprinkled on the butter, so there must have been an upgrade to jam, marmalade, even Marmite at some point. My mother made jam though, so maybe it was always available.

I remember our family's love for banana sandwiches. I wonder whether that was because my parents had had to go without during The War. Or maybe it just so happened that we all liked the taste.

dearieme - I've never tried one, but I've come across lots of people who like them or liked them in the past. Maybe it was a way to boost a banana into a light meal.

Banana & Peanut Butter, my favourite. (peanut butter and raspberry jam is pretty good too)

djc - I haven't tried either of those, but we like peanut butter on toast covered in a dollop of tinned chopped tomato.
