Absolutely brilliant! We could laugh for ages after any sketch by those two fabulous performers - or three, with Celia Imrie, especially Acorn Antiques!
For complicated reasons, back in the late 1980’s I ended up trying to buy shoes for my wedding in Romford shopping centre.
I found a style I liked in cream and, explaining that I was trying to match a swatch of my ivory-coloured wedding dress fabric, asked if they had it in size 3. The assistant slouched off with a heavy sigh and, after a seemingly interminable wait, returned with a pair of size 5s in bright red.
“I’ve got it in a 5 in red…” has been the family phrase for unhelpful shop staff ever since, commemorating one of my favourite instances of life imitating art.

ReplyDeleteA laugh like this is a superb start to the day!
Scrobs - yes, Acorn Antiques was a hoot too. That shoe shop sketch could have been expanded too, but there's nothing like it now.
