Interesting video about Throwley Old Hall in Staffordshire, not far from the Staffordshire/Derbyshire boundary. It can be seen from a couple of our walks, although we haven't been that way for a few years.
There is a nearby farm and holiday accommodation now, but when inhabited the Hall must have seemed a remote and strangely situated place. What went on there? It would be easy to make up stories.
Very nice. Having seen that, I can't imagine it during fine weather. Especially with all that dark stone.
ReplyDeleteSam - even in fine weather it must have seemed lonely and isolated in an age without cars. I can imagine guests waking up in the morning, wondering why they are there as they gaze out of the window.
ReplyDeleteI camped near there by the Manifold in 1971, at Rushley Bridge, 2 nice days ended by torrential rain one night when the usually underground Manifold rose up and threatetend to wash away our tent !
ReplyDeleteAnon - it's a strange river isn't it? Attractive to walk by until it disappears, but when the rain comes, sometimes it appears again.
