I guess political systems that once did the job tend to ossify and start to produce serious anomalies. Having Biden emerge from the process is a pretty big sign that some kind of procedural reform is overdue. Let's hope that the culture of the USA isn't completely trashed until they manage the reform. Once the idiotic laws and opinions are embedded in the population at large, we'd better start learning Chinese.
Sam - it isn't easy to work out how serious it is and if the US will eventually pull back from it. It looks extremely serious in its implications, but is so transparently absurd that pulling back ought to be the normal reaction. I hope so.
