Not much social distancing there

I sometimes wonder what kind of reader reaction the BBC expects when it publishes stories like this. Some kind of indiscriminate sympathy perhaps. Maybe it could trigger a new placard-waving cause such as DLM - Dumb Lives Matter.

  1. I think they just want emotion; anything which motivates the reader to click another button. That way, they can point to numbers of clicks and how vital and needed they are, for such time as a brave politician asks the obvious question about the BBC's existence.

  2. Sam - you are right - they just want emotion. The problem is, mass emotion swamps everything, but they know that too. I suppose it is also easy because much of it is riding on the back of previously stirred emotions.
