Award-winning ice-cream

While on holiday here in Minehead, my better half and I have both noticed how difficult it is to find ice-cream that isn't described as Award Winning. I like the synthetic stuff, full of alginates and emulsifiers, but even that tends to be Award Winning. Who awards these awards?

  1. The Ice Cream Alliance, to name but one.

I suspect, however, that this is a confederation of producers who meet up to lick each other's cones and keep the "award winning" trope in play.

  2. For my sins I once worked in Marketing. There are agencies who specialise in producing awards that only your product can win, or you just make one up, its as simple as that. All a matter of one's definition. No problem unless your ice-cream is recycled.....

  3. Sam and Roger - so the awards aren't genuine testimonials!

I also had some award-winning fish and chips yesterday - felt queasy for the rest of the day.
