Arctic sea ice extent is now within two standard deviations of the 1979-2000 average. This is the kind of statistic many scientists might naively class as not alarming.
Within the more rigorous realms of climate science, it means the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are ready to ride so give us lots more funding.
It's as well to be aware of these little differences.
